Maybe i’m biased—i spent weeks on end in land rovers well off the road in central africa in my twenties and came to love them. We barely achieved synchromesh gears and manual boxes were standard. But they would handle almost anything. The lr20 is a much more civilized beast, swathed in leather with all kinds of what are now called “amenities” to cope with the rigors of life on the tarmac and in suburbia. But for all the top dressing, they are still very tough capable off-road vehicles. The second row accommodation is equally comfortably, offering plenty of space for two adults. The instruments are clear and easy to understand and there are small places to stow things all over the interior. Driving is solidly reassuring. But the 3. 2-liter in-line six with all-wheel drive provides acceleration in the 0 to 60mph range of about 8 seconds—not bad for a vehicle of this type. There’s enough oomph to make freeway driving thoroughly practicable, the effect being stolid rather than spectacular. But that’s the essence of a lr2. I headed to my favorite mountain haunts, flipped the gears into sport manual and had great fun navigating hairpins and slaloms. I thoroughly enjoyed cornering at surprisingly high speeds. Much as i would have liked to, i could not go off-road and experiment with such goodies as traction control, roll stability control and the gradient release and hill descent controls, which are features added since my land rover days. We just put the box into low range gear and prayed… the lr20 is comfortable vehicle with all the modern features and is easy to drive. It is civilized yet tough and versatile. Many women drivers are strongly attracted to these automobiles, especially if they spend much of their time ferrying around growing families. This very nice lr20 has 40,000 miles on it and has been well-looked after. It drives like new, has no rattles, and comes with the sunroof and other extras. These are very popular vehicles, reflected in the aggressive market price for this very nice example. Strongly recommended for long-term ownership, not only for urban use, but for those who enjoy the great outdoors.
