Porsches are high price territory, which is hardly surprising since they set the benchmark for handling and performance. The boxster is at the lower end of the scale, a desirable automobile for those who want the porsche experience but shy away from the stratospheric prices of its more luxurious and faster relatives. Not that the lower price detracts from the handling. This is a superb example of a well put together automobile. Naturally, i spent most of my time in sport. I headed straight for the mountains, for this is an automobile that begs for hairpins and windy roads. This is an automobile heaven on earth, even for an inexperienced driver. I slipped into second and stayed there as i made for the hills, rocketing back and forth at speed through narrow left and right corners without a murmur of complaint. Then the mountain road itself, where hairpins follow hairpins. I alternated between second and third, slipping between one and the other effortlessly and quickly when needed. Nothing rivals a porsche in the twisties. The boxster took to the bends as if it had been doing it daily for years. Back and forth, a touch of throttle, a nicely calibrated straight line, another touch of accelerator and away i blasted out of the corners. Sometimes i pushed hard. The car was as sure footed as it was at slower speeds. Herein lies one of the charms of the boxster. It is a forgiving car, a platform for a relatively inexperienced driver to learn the ways of a fast sports car without endangering him- or her-self in the process. From the mountains, i headed onto country roads, where the car was equally versatile. Cruising at 65 is smooth and quiet. Their problem, not mine. The 2014 model has the significant body changes of a year earlier and comes across as a nimble, predictable car. The boxster appeals strongly to many women drivers, but is coveted by owners of all ages both as a daily driver and as a deliciously fast and safe sports car. It’s been very well looked after, checked out perfectly, and is ready for long-term ownership. The impeccable handling and crisp acc.
